Freedom's Price by Christine Johnson

When an incredible secret comes to light, Both Catherine and Tom will face a choice: Grip their dreams tighter or step forward in faith...

Hey Readers, I have a wonderful new book for you to check out.  Freedom's Price by Christine Johnson is a Historical Romance story set in Key West and in New Orleans in the 1800's. I would recommend this book if you:
  • Like Historical Mystery with a dash of romance.
  • Like to read books by Jamie Carie and Kathleen Y'Barbo.
  • Have read the first 2 books in the  Keys of Promise series.
  • Want to read a great book,

So here is the story.
Freedom's Price is the story of Catherine Hayes, a young Englishwoman who has lost her parents and now has lost her home. Realizing that there is nothing left for her in England; she decides to cross the ocean in search for her mother's relatives in America. ( Her mother was from Louisiana ) She is able to secure passage on the Justinian with her friend (and captain's wife ) Mrs. Durning to Jamaica, but before they are able to arrive in Jamaica, the ship is caught in a horrible storm. The wind and waves blew hard against the ship but they were able to withstand the severity of the storm with only damage to the mainmast. The issue was that because they were demasted, they were going to have to accept the offer of Wrecker and pilot Tom Worthington to pilot the ship across the reef and into the harbor at Key west safely. Catherine is immediately intrigued by Tom - with his pirate-like ways and his impish grin, but she does not have time to get to know him because she has to find her family...

Tom's gaze found Catherine's as soon as he boarded the Justinian. He is immediately impressed by her wit and courage but is troubled when he finds out that she means to go to New Orleans unaccompanied. When he discovers that she is looking for a person from her past by the name of  "DeMornay"  who has a large scar on one side of his face, He is shocked! Tom is also looking for someone from his past who may have played a part in his father's death. The man was known as "Mornez" and he also was said to have a large scar on one side of his face.  It cannot be coincidence that the names are so similar and that both people have the same scar on his face so Tom comes up with a plan to escort her, but it may cost him his job.. After much debate, Catherine allows Tom to escort her and when they arrive in New Orleans Catherine is glad she did not go on the trip alone. When  they arrived at her family plantation ChĂȘne Noir  they are shocked by the condition of the place. With rumors surrounding the plantation and the dark activities that happen there, Will they encounter more than they bargained for?   Will Tom let go of his need for revenge to save the girl he has fallen in love with?
It appears that darkness and evil surround the plantation and it's activities, But the real danger started when they were allowed inside...

So what did I think?
First this is book 3 in the Keys of Promise series but I read it as a stand alone and enjoyed it immensely. The book was intriguing from the beginning and just kept going until the very last page. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more of them, ( starting with the first 2 books in the series) There is a bit of suspense at the end but no graphic violence. I enjoyed the witty conversations between Tom and Catherine, and the mystery regarding the plantation. During the middle of the book, you can almost sense the danger that Catherine is in but it is not until the very end that you see the full extent of it. Overall, I loved the book and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars *****
