Luther and Katharina by Jody Hedlund

So I just read a really good book that I have been wanting to check out,  It is the newest book by Jody Hedlund called Luther and Katharina. As the title suggest, it is the story of Martin Luther and Katharina Von Bora. When Katharina was young her father put her in a convent. She grew up there with no hopes of ever leaving to marry and have a family. She was to forever be part of the  bride of Christ. But she and her sisters ( the other nuns) found literature by Dr. Luther that explained that God made us to love and be married.  So she and the other sisters risked their lives to escape the convent. During their escape they were met with dangerous men and the threat of being discovered because they were still on Abbot Baltazar's land ( the one that ran the convent). They were only able to escape by hiding in empty barrels and smuggled to the Black Cloister, The Monastery where Dr.Luther lived. Dr Luther was surprised to see the nine runaway nuns who were smuggled to his home by one of his friends. He immediately noticed the petite nun with the blue eyes that boldly stared back at him. As the nuns started finding homes, Katharina discovered that life outside the convent might  not be exactly what she thought it was going to be. She thought she would immediately find a wealthy, titled husband, marry and have a family. But she did not count that while she is waiting for her husband to be, She has to work as a servant so that she can earn her room and board with the family that has so graciously took her in. Katharina and Dr Luther keep bumping into each other and every time they are in the same room they are bickering. Dr Luther calls Katharina, "a hissing cat" and is always trying to bait her because she gets defensive so quick and Katharina is always saying something or doing something that gets Dr. Luther furious.  Katharina finds someone who proposes love to her and promises marriage just as soon as he comes back from his trip out of town. Katharina believes that she has finally found the man God wants her to be with because he is titled and wealthy. But she wonders why Dr. Luther gets so mad every time she says her intended's name?

Dr.Luther knows the man that Katharina likes is a horrible snake of a man and is never going to marry her. But he wonders why she is so blind that she does not see it and he also is wondering why it makes him so mad that someone out there likes Katharina. It is not like he likes her... Right? Because he could never fall in love with anyone, he is not that type of person. What happens next is too much for me to even put in my review. But there are moments of danger, a kidnapping, Illness and betrayal that occur several times in this story.
Will Katharina be able to find someone to love her or will pride and her title keep her from ever marrying anyone because they are below her standards? Will Dr. Luther ever be able to admit that even he is not above getting married and will he find the one that is to be the wife God wants for him?
Guess you will have to read it to find out.

I thought that the book was very well written. It almost feels like you are there sitting in the same room, listening to Dr. Luther and Katharina fight with each other. The relationship between the two is very interesting because it is very up and down. With them in love one moment and about to kill each other the next.  The story is full of action and a little bit of theology for the guys and a little bit ( or a lot towards the end ) of romance in the story for the girls. There are some moments that are a bit graphic when she describes some of the violent acts  that the peasants did to get the attention of the princes. but there is nothing in too much detail. Just enough for you to see the horror of the event(s). Overall, I enjoyed the story. It had a little too much romance for my taste but it was still a good book.
I rate it 4 out of 5 stars ****

The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen

I cannot believe that it has almost been a month since I have reviewed a book for you!
Oh, well the Christmas season seems to be busy time for everyone. But in case you have a moment to spare and can sit and enjoy a new book, I just finished reading The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen.  It is the story of Captain Stephen Overtree who went to Lynmouth to find his irresponsible older brother Wesley. Instead of finding Wesley, he finds Sophie Dupont, who had fallen in love with Wesley and was now with child. But when Stephen finds out that Wesley left to go to Italy to find his "Mona Lisa" and left Sophie behind,  Stephen immediately feels protective of Sophie although he is not sure why except that he feels he needs to fix the mistake his brother made. So Stephen offers Sophie marriage in name only, so in the event that he is killed in battle, she will be a respected widow and not shunned from society due to having a child without a husband.  Sophie agrees and they get married, and move into his family home at Overtree Hall in England. Sophie and Stephen start growing closer together and find themselves falling in love with each other and shortly after they arrived at Overtree Hall Stephen has to go back to war. A few days after Stephen left, Wesley returns home and is surprised to see Sophie there. He thought that she had come to find him, but when he finds out that she married his brother, He is furious!  He tries to figure out why Sophie married his brother and is upset that she did not wait for him. When Stephen is reported Missing in Action  and  Presumed dead, The whole family is upset but Wesley sees his chance to convince Sophie to marry him. Sophie is outraged that Wesley would be so uncaring and heartless, and she prays fervently for Stephen's safe return. Will Wesley finally realize that Sophie is no longer in love with him but her heart now belongs to his brother, Stephen?  Will Stephen be found safe and be able to come home to his wife and child?

I thought that the book was good, Very well written with believable and likable characters. There was nothing graphic or inappropriate mentioned but it had little bit too much romance for my liking but I understand why it was in the story.  I love the faith that Stephan shows throughout the story and how you can see Sophie grow in her faith towards the end of the book.
I did not care for Mrs.Klassen's previous book Lady Maybe but was thrilled that she went with her old style of writing on this book!  I hope that she continues writing books like this one.
Overall, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars ****

Rising Darkness by Nancy Mehl

So, I needed a good book and picked up Rising Darkness by Nancy Mehl. It has a intriquing looking cover and the plot sounded good but when I read the book, It was even better then I thought!

It is the story of Sophie Wittenbauer who had grown up in a Mennonite town but did not have the best childhood. Her parents did not think that school was important, she had to do chores from sun up to sun down and sometimes her father hit her. So to rebel against her parents she hung around with the wrong crowd as a teenager and did a very bad thing.  Trying to forget her past, she ran away and went to college and got a job at a newspaper writing obituaries and restaurant reviews. but she wanted to become more and she finally saw her chance. A man she once knew was in prison and had a tip that the main suspect from a decades old crime that was never solved was hiding out in a small town not far from where she lived. So she decides that if she can solve this case and write the story first she would get promoted. So she decides to pretend to be the granddaughter of the sister of a town member that died years ago so that she can investigate the case without anyone suspecting.  Sophie travels to Sanctuary, Missouri which is a small partially Mennonite town and starts her masquerade. Her investigation was going well until she runs into Jonathon, a old childhood friend and he threatens to blow her cover. Suddenly everything seems to fall apart . She starts receiving threatening notes, was attacked at the Church and two more people discover who she is and why she is really there.
As she gets closer to solving the crime, the danger seems to be getting closer to her. Can she solve the case before she or someone she loves gets hurt? Or will she be in such a hurry to get the story that she puts herself or a innocent bystander in danger?

I LOVED this book, It was a little hard to get into it at the beginning but after that it hooks you and you just can't seem to put the book down.  I love the characters, especially Sophie, Esther and Jonathan.  The best part (of course ) was the end, which I surprisingly was not expecting but overall the story and the plot were excellent. This is the 3rd book in the Finding Sanctuary series, but I read the book as a stand alone and was perfectly fine with it. I had no trouble following the story or the characters.
Overall I give it 5 stars *****

Every Girl Gets Confused by Janice Thompson

So I just finished reading  Every Girl Gets Confused by Janice Thompson.
It is the story of Katie Fisher who has the most perfect boyfriend named Brady James . He's sweet , kind and absolutely adorable, so it looks like this small town girl is about to get her "happily ever after "  right?   Maybe , because she finds herself being pulled in several different directions, She has to coordinate a special event at her job , help a bride find the perfect wedding dress, work out some bad publicity from a nasty customer, Support her boyfriend because he is having surgery that could end his basketball career  AND if that was not enough, Her ex-boyfriend/almost fiance' is back in town and wants to get back together.  Katie is not sure that she can handle everything that is going on right now but she knows that God is in control and that this is just a season and things will slow down and get back to normal . But with Casey coming back and seeming as sweet as ever, Will she leave Brady just when he needs her the most or will she finally get her "happy ever after"?

So I read the book as a stand alone having not read the first book in the series, Every Bride needs a Groom. It was OK, Well written with an easy to follow story line but it was too much of a romance novel for me. It seemed like all of the characters had some sort of "lovelife" moment and there was alot of PDA (Public Displays of Affection) .  It was a good story if  you like contemporary romance  and it had a good message but it just was not my cup of tea.
 Overall I give it 3 stars ***

The Christmas Joy Ride by Melody Carlson

Can you believe that Christmas is in 56 days?!

So to get ready for the upcoming Christmas season I just read Melody Carlson's new book The Christmas Joy Ride. It is the story of 85 year old Joy Jorgenson (who is also known by her blog name "Christmas Joy" ) who decides to take a road trip from Chicago to Phoenix in a RV that is completely decked out for Christmas with lights in the windows, Sparkling garland taped on the sides and a huge wreath tied to the front of the RV. Her neighbor Miranda is worried about Joy's health on such a long trip and being that she is unemployed and facing foreclosure she agrees to come along and help out. Joy had posted a contest on her blog that 6 people were going to win Christmas. She did not tell them what the prize was but she wanted to know why they needed a little "Christmas Joy" this year. Miranda and Joy are going to go to each of the winners home or business and put up Christmas decorations , hand out cookies and get them into the Christmas spirit. The places they go varies as much as the people themselves, like a Nursing home that needs a little hope,  A diner where a single mother is struggling to keep her restaurant open so she can support her family or a little girl that has not had Christmas since her mother died . Each of the stops are to very different people in all stages of life but they may not get to finish their trip because Joy's health is starting to fail. Will they be able to make all of their stops and still get to Phoenix for Christmas? Or will the coming winter weather and Joy's health concerns force them to abandon their mission?

I thought that the book was well written and that the characters were sweet. The only thing that I did not like in the book was that it mentions Santa Claus a lot and did not mention the meaning of Christmas (which is the birth of  Jesus) . Yes, they did have a nativity given at all of their stops but they also had Santa Claus. I wish that somewhere in the book Joy would have explained to Miranda or one of the winners from the contest what the true meaning of Christmas is, since you cannot have any Christmas joy without the real reason for the season.
Overall, It is a heartwarming story with a OK ending. I give it 3 stars ***

Vendetta by Lisa Harris

Hey Everyone, I have just finished reading Vendetta  by Lisa Harris. It is the story of Special Agent Nikki Boyd whose sister, Sarah was abducted 10 years ago. Nikki has been weighed down with guilt since her sisters disappearance because she blames herself since she was not on time to pick her sister up that day. While spending the day with her friend Tyler, She receives a call that informed her that a young girl named Bridget Ellison had gone missing, First they thought that she just wondered off a trail since her brother and some of her friends were spending the weekend in the woods for her birthday, but then the evidence started pointing towards her being taken by a boy she met online. They discover that whoever she was meeting created a false profile online and has been tracking her by the GPS on her phone.  They find some clues that point to her being taken to a national park where they uncover a Polaroid picture of Bridget. Nikki notices that the evidence and the MO ( A word  is used by the Police to describe a criminal's characteristic way of committing a crime) was similar to the person who abducted her sister and worries that her sisters abductor is back after 10 years. While looking up evidence at the officer who worked on her sisters case, she receives a creepy phone call from the man who took Bridget. Now it seems that the man she has hunted for, for ten years is now hunting her...
When they find evidence that Bridget was at a campsite near them, The team goes to see what they can find, But when someone on the team turns out to be the man they are looking for, All of their lives are in danger, Can Nikki and Tyler escape alive ?  Will anyone be able to save Bridget... If she is still alive? Guess you will have to read it to find out!!!

I loved the book! This book is the first in the "Nikki Boyd Files" series and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in the series. The book reminded me a lot of watching a Crime Drama on TV, where the plot takes some time to develop but then its like "Whoa, What just happened!!!" towards the end, and I have to say... the end is the best part!!! Oh, I wish I could tell you how the book ends! but I don't want to spoil it for you. (Nobody likes Spoilers) I definitely recommend that you read the book, but don't read the sneak peek at her next book that she includes in the back of the book, It is like one of those horrible "To Be Continued..." that you see on TV because the book does not come out until Summer 2016!!!
(huge sigh,) I guess I will have to wait until next year to see what happens.
Overall I rate it 5 stars *****

Love Everlasting by Tracie Peterson

So I just finished reading Tracie Peterson's newest book, Love Everlasting. It is the story of Abrianna Cunningham,a 21 year old girl that has grown up in a bridal finishing school run by her 3 aunts.  Since she the day she came to the school, She has been friends with Wade Ackerman, The boy next door.  Now that she has turned 21, She has found that her feelings for Wade have changed and that somehow she had fallen in love with her best friend! Thankfully Wade feels the same way and proposes to Abrianna., Even after the wedding proposal, a rejected suitor named Priam Welby (Welby for short)  decides that he will not let Abrianna marry Wade because she will be marrying him. Despite being rejected several times , He is determined to make her marry him at all costs, Not because he loves her but because she is a "challenge" to him. Meanwhile Abrianna is having doubts about marrying Wade, She is worried that she will not be a good enough wife because She did not pay attention to her homemaking classes at school, and she can't cook. but under the good counsel of her Father and her Aunts, She is reassured that Wade will love her no matter what, especially since he knows her better then anyone else because they have been best friends since childhood.  Welby is looking for anyway to get to Abrianna and realizes that the only way to her is through her family, So he sees the opportunity and has her father beaten and arrested, Then he has Wade thrown in jail and falsely accused of murder. So Welby approaches Abrianna and tells her the only way that her family will be released from jail and not hung for murder will be if she agrees to marry him.  She still refuses and he tells her that he will not only have Wade and her father killed but then he will cause harm to fall on her Aunts and her friends to. Abrianna fears for her family's safety and agrees to marry Welby if he will get her father  and Wade out of jail and if he will leave her family alone. So Welby agrees and has the wedding set for a month later on October 19th and Abrianna attempts to convince everyone that she is in love with Welby.  As the Wedding day approaches, Abrianna does not see any way out of this mess that she has gotten into,  Will God help her to get out of this mess or will she be forever stuck with a madman for a husband? Will Wade ever forgive her for breaking his heart?
Guess you will have to read the book to find out!

I loved this book!  I read this book as a stand alone, It is book 3 of the Brides of Seattle series. While it was a great book by itself, I would recommend reading the other books prior to reading this one because I got lost during some parts of the book. One thing that I loved was the faith that both Wade and Abrianna show., Especially when Abrianna was fighting with Welby and she told him that he was not the only one with friends in powerful positions, She also had a friend in a powerful position, That her hope is in the Lord.  One of the best parts in the book , So check out and tell me what you think. :)

I rate the book 5 Stars *****

As I said before, I loved the book, but I need to find the first two books in the series so that I can see what I missed. In case you want to check out this series or other books by Mrs Tracie Peterson, I have included a link to her website below.

Treasure at Battersea Bluffs by Sarah Norkus

Hey, Just read a Awesome new book by Sarah Norkus called Treasure of the Battersea Bluffs. It is the story of sixteen year old Emily and her boyfriend Josh,  Who were volunteered by Emily's parents to work at a rundown villa known as Battersea. While they were there, A spooked horse managed to get
into the old home and one of his hooves broke a hole in the floorboard. As Emily looks into the floorboard, She gets dizzy and passes out. Josh tried to catch Emily but he got dizzy and also passed out. When they both wake up, they discover that they are not in the year 2009 anymore , They had somehow time traveled back in time and now are in the eighteenth century. Within minutes of Emily and Josh's "arrival" into the eighteenth century, They save the life of a servant girl who was almost murdered , but in doing so became the target of Angus Blackburn, a young plantation owner who is obsessively looking for jewels that his father has hidden just before he died. With the help of a young black slave named Ezra, Emily and Josh are able to escape from Blackburn's hands, But they are not out of danger for long. Blackburn corners the kids next to a cliff and threatens to shoot them if they do not tell him the location of his jewels. Emily, Josh and Ezra have no clue what he is talking about and before they can try and come up with something. Blackburn shoots Josh and tries to shoot Ezra but Ezra jumps off the cliff after Josh. Seeing Josh get shot, Emily runs for her life and to see if she can find help for the boys. She finds help with a farmer and his son but as they are on their way to help them, Blackburn stops them and convinces them that Emily is his servant that has runaway and the farmer reluctantly hands Emily over to him. Blackburn has Emily put in his mother's old room and has the door locked so she cannot escape while he continues to look for the treasure. Emily finds an old diary belonging to Blackburn's mother and it tells EVERYTHING!, It tells about the jewels and how greed poisoned the family . Greed so bad that his mother and father hid the jewels from Blackburn, because even when he was a child, he did not care who he had to hurt to find the jewels. Meanwhile, back in the woods, Josh survives being shot ( it is a miracle from God that he was not killed ) and Ezra risks his life to save Josh. Ezra said that Josh and Miss Emily were the only people that treat him like a person and not just a piece of property and that he was willing to die to save them and to get them back to their own time. Josh and Ezra finally reach Blackburn's house where Emily is being held hostage  and attempt to rescue her but during their escape, Ezra is caught by Blackburn,  Will they be able to save Ezra in time ? Will Josh and Emily ever make it back to 2009?  Well,  you will just have to read the book to find out.

So this book is the sequel to The Secret Diary of Sarah Chamberlain, and I just have to say that the first book was good , but this book is Amazing! The main characters are the same as in the first book, but you get to know a little more about Emily's life and how she survived cancer, and you get to see how cool her boyfriend Josh is , How he sticks by her side even when it puts his life in danger.  The plot has a lot of action in it so it is hard to put the book down, but at the end of the book, you see how the two timelines come together in such a awesome and amazing way that when you finish the book you will have a smile on your face. I love that when the characters lives were saved, They thanked God for preserving their lives. I love the faith in God that Emily and Josh show as they go through this adventure. Overall I give it 5 stars *****

So I also wanted to tell you how I received this book, My mom was out shopping at Barnes and Noble to look for a b-day gift for me and Mrs Norkus was doing a meet and greet that day, My mom took at look at the books she wrote and thought that I might like this one. So needless to say, my mom found an awesome present and the author even signed it!

So If you want to check out this book, take a look at her website by clicking the link below.
I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!

Agents of Babylon by Dr. David Jeremiah

Hey, I just read my first complete Non- Fiction book!
( I have started several, but never finished it)
I just finished reading Agents of Babylon by Dr. David Jeremiah. It is a book study on the Book of Daniel, which is the 27th book in the Bible.
Dr Jeremiah goes into great detail about the faith, courage and devotion of a young Jewish captive that was taken from his home at the age of 14 and forced to serve the king of Babylon. The book outlines the events that occurred during the book of Daniel, Such as when Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nago were thrown into the fiery furnace , The Writing on the Wall, King Nebuchadnezzar's Dream and the well known story of Daniel and Lions Den. But the book also goes into great detail about visions that Daniel received from God that foretold events that were in the future for Daniel but have already come to pass for us, like Alexander the Great,  Ptolemy II,  and Antiochus Epiphanes (Antiochus IV) . We are also shown the visions that God gave Daniel that foretell events that have not happened yet like the reign of the Antichrist, The characteristics of the Antichrist, and The 7 year
Tribulation.  We are shown evidence of Spiritual warfare when we read about a battle between some demons and the angels Gabriel and Michael.  We also get a glimpse into the life of Daniel and his friends through fictional stories that start each chapter. The stories are about what we will learn in the " The Scripture Behind The Stories" section that forms the second half of each chapter and at the end of each chapter it ends with  the "Daniel for Today" section that shows how we can apply the truths we just learned in our every day lives. Dr Jeremiah also includes some amazing charts in the book, like the "A" Kings of Daniel 11 or "An Unexpected Answer to Prayer" that help us picture events or timelines.  There is a lot of  information in this one book, but I can't tell you everything, I guess you will have to read it to find out what else is in the book.

I loved the book, it did take me some time to get into it since I normally only read fiction but I did enjoy the book very much. I love the fictional stories that capture your attention  and the "The Scripture behind the Stories " section that separate fact from fiction. The book was very easy to understand and had a lot of Scripture to back up his points.
Overall,  I give this book 5 stars *****

The Lost Heiress by Roseanna M. White

Hey, Just finished reading The Lost Heiress by Roseanna M White and I thought it was awesome!  It is the story of Brook Sabatini who lives in Monte Carlo, Monaco with her best friend Justin. For the past 8 years Brook did not know who she was, just who she wasn't. She was raised by Opera Singer Collete Sabatini and Prince Albert but it was not until Collette was on her death bed that she told Brook that she was not her child, that she was found in a carriage accident when she was a baby that killed her real mother. The only clue of her past was a letter that she found mixed in with love letters from Collette's past boyfriends.  Justin traveled to England and using the seal from the letter found out that her father has been looking for her for years.  Justin found out that Brook, whose real name is Elizabeth Brook Eden is the lost Baroness from Berkeley and the daughter of an Earl . Justin and Brook travel to Whitby Park, in North Yorkshire England where her father, Aunt and some cousins are waiting to meet her. Upon arriving her father instantly recognizes her because she is the exact picture of her mother and so does her Aunt, but the servants are not so accepting.  Life in Whitby Park seems to be going well except that the servants hate her and Justin cannot stay with her (because both his father and grandfather died and he has become the new Duke) until one day Brook is attacked!  A man comes behind her while she is in the stables with her horse and hits her in the shoulder. They fight and well I don't want to give you all the details and ruin the story but Brook survives injured, but alive.  The strangest thing was that the man kept screaming to give him the "Fire Eyes" and Brook did not even know what the "Fire Eyes" were.  Justin returns to Whitby park and is shocked to see Brook injured. He tries to help her solve the mystery but as the days pass by Justin is finally realizes that he loves Brook but does not know how to tell her and when he finally does tell her, Brook thinks that Justin only likes her now because she has money and a title.  They both get into a huge fight then Justin leaves again and in his absence Brook's new friend stops by and accuses her of stealing the Fire Eyes. Before her friend leaves she tells Brook to be careful or she might "end up like her mother." Brook finally finds out what the "Fire Eyes" are and she works to see who is after them.  But she can only do so much because as she was driving home one day , Someone opens the door to her car  and kidnaps her.  Will Justin return in time to save Brook  or will Brook end up suffering the same fate as her mother.  Guess you will have to read it to find out :)

I thought that the book was Awesome!!!  I love the characters ( I love Justin's nickname for Brook, he calls her Brooklet) I love the way the author wrote such a intriguing plot with a hint of romance, a lot of mystery and just a sprinkle of danger. Oh, The Author also put a few French words in the book with is cool to read. The book is 435 pages but the story is so interesting that you do not even notice the amount of pages until the book is finished and then you are like "What! It cannot be finished yet!"  Overall I give the book 5 out of 5 stars.

I cannot wait to read the next book in the series that will be available in  2016 but for now I will check out some of her other books. If you want to see more books by Mrs Rosanna M White just click on the link below

Last Chance Hero by Cathleen Armstrong

Hey Everyone, I just read Last Chance Hero by Cathleen Armstrong. It is the story of Dr Jessica MacLeod, who is opening up her own practice in Last Chance New Mexico. A few things about her? She is a geek! ( she says so herself) She used to live in California and she hates football, Which in a town like Last Chance is not a good idea because EVERYBODY in the Town loves football and that brings us to the other main character Andy Ryan. a hometown hero who was born and raised in Last Chance and made it to the NFL and has now come back to coach the High School football team. Jessica finds that life in the rural little town is not what she thought it would be, The people all look at her like she is crazy because she would rather read a book then watch a football game and anytime she tells someone that she is the new doctor, they tell her ( in the same sentence.) "Oh, we're so excited about having a new doctor in town, But I think I will drive to San Ramon because I have always gone to that Doctor"   As Jessica is having trouble adjusting to life in Last Chance, Andy is having trouble of his own. Everybody in the town expects him to be able to bring the "Glory Days" back, The time when Last Chance's High School Football time was unbeatable and whenever anyone strikes up a conversation with him it ALWAYS has to have something to do with football.  When Andy and Jessica first meet they get off on the wrong foot, Andy makes fun of the fact that Jessica does not like football, and Jessica unintentionally insults Andy by not knowing that he played as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Even after the rocky start, you can tell that they both are attracted to each other, They start taking morning runs together and having lunch with each other. But just when everything was going well for both of our characters , one of the football players gets hurt during practice, He is not seriously injured but he will be unable to play on the team for a couple of weeks. Jessica finds out that Gabe ( the injured player) wants to be a doctor when he graduates, She is thrilled and encourages him to focus on his studies, but Gabe thinks to focus on his studies he has to quit the football team.  Andy thinks that Jessica told Gabe to quit the team and is FURIOUS! He is made because he is the coach and she is not, She has no authority to tell him to quit the team.  Now they both are on the defensive believing that they are right  and refuse to talk with each other. Will they be able to get back together? Will Gabe really quit the sport that he loves?
Guess you will have to read the book to find out!

First I love the name of the town, Last Chance, ( her description of this small little town was enough to make anyone want to visit the town on their next vacation ) The book was filled with sweet and charming characters and she did not put too much emphasis on the romance between Andy and Jessica. The story reminded me of watching a heart warming movie on TV , The kind that you want to watch while snuggling  up in a blanket and enjoying a cup of steaming hot tea and maybe a fire blazing in the fireplace,
I really enjoyed reading this book and I hope you will too!
Overall  I give it 3 out of 5 stars.   ***

The Sea Keeper's Daughter by Lisa Wingate

Hey everyone,  I have just finished reading the Sea Keeper's Daughter by Lisa Wingate, and I loved it!  It is the story of Whitney Monroe who is desperate to save her restaurant the  Tazza  2.  She is having financial trouble and Tagg Harper, a competitor in the Italian restaurant business is trying to make her go out of business. After dealing with Mr.Harper she heads home and her neighbor/landlord meets her before she gets in the house and tells her that there is a message for her about her stepfather,  Which is strange, because she NEVER talks to her stepfather because she blames him for her mother's death ( her mom had cancer and she never knew about it, She thinks that he is the reason that her mom never told her about her illness) She finds out from one of his neighbors that he was taken to the hospital because he had fallen in the bathroom and no one knew about it until someone found him four days later. So Whitney heads over to Manteo in the Outer Banks NC to assist her stepfather and to retrieve and hopefully sell some of the items that were her inheritance from her parents that is currently in her stepfather's hands, so that  she can use the money for her restaurant. When she arrives at the Excelsior ( a old hotel that had been in her father's family for years, currently  where her stepfather lives ) she discovers her stepfather Clyde is missing. After about a day Clyde returns and is angry that Whitney is there because he believes she wants to kick him out of the Excelsior and sell it,but reluctantly he agrees to allow her to look through some items left  from earlier generations of her family that have been stored on the 2nd floor. While cleaning up and looking through the mess of items, looking for things that she can sell, Whitney comes across a letter by her grandmothers sister, Alice. The letter tells of the struggles Alice faced and a new job that gave her the opportunity of a lifetime, the chance to interview people that in the mountains and to write their story. Curiosity holds Whitney captive as she tries to find the pieces of Alice's letters so that she can learn more of her story while trouble for her restaurant is still brewing at home.  Whitney and Clyde relationship improves ( they can stay in the same building and not scream at each other, they can have a nice civilized conversation) and Whitney starts to feel a strange attraction to Mark , the store owner downstairs ( Mark owns the Rip Shack, A little surf shop on the bottom floor of the Excelsior building) But suddenly disaster strikes!
Whitney betrays (not intentionally) all of her new friends including Mark and then Whitney's restaurant burns down due to suspicious circumstances.  Will Whitney be able to restore her broken relationship with Mark and Clyde after she betrayed them?  Will she be able to save her restaurant?
Guess you have to read the book to find out!

I was very surprised by this book, This is the first book I have ever read by this author and I loved it. It was a little rough getting into the story but about half way through the book I just did not want to put it down. The author wrote the book in such a way that the character almost seems like a friend telling you what happened on her trip to the Outer Banks last year.  The plot did not have a lot of action  but it had enough drama to hold your attention until the end of the book. And suprisingly it did not have a lot of romance in it. (Sorry, lately I have read several books that are WAY too romantic) My favorite part was the end, it showed that Whitney is the ...
Sorry, I can't say what happened because then I would spoil the whole story.
I give it 4 out of 5 Stars ****

I will definitely be checking out her other books, Want to check them out too? Just click on the link below.

Brentwood's Ward by Michelle Griep

Hey Everyone , I just read a book by Michelle Griep called Brentwood's Ward. It is the story of Nicholas Brentwood, a Bow Street Runner (They were a Police officer in the early nineteenth century) who is assigned to watch Miss Emily Payne. When Nicholas was offered the job to watch "young" Miss Emily, He thought that she was a little girl and all he would have to do was sit in the study and read the "Times" , while she played around the house or was taken care of by her governess, so he was more then surprised to find out that she was in her twenty's! Nicholas was reluctant at first and only agreed to take the job because he needed money to move his dying sister Jenny to the country, hoping that the fresh air would help her to get well.

Emily longed for love, especially from her father but all she has is the undivided attention of her sweet, spoiled little pug named Alf, and a very distant father who never spends time with her. When she meets Nicolas, she finds him to be the most annoying, bossy and somehow dangerous man she's ever met. To her horror,  Nicholas decides that the best way to ensure her safety , is to her stick to her side like glue, which can be very trying for both of them since it involves hat-shopping, social calls and a ball.  At one dinner with Emily's friends, Emily and Nicholas are eating oysters, which Nicholas is finding repulsive and is really trying not to be sick , So Emily, (trying to be funny) watches and every time Nicholas would start to put one near his mouth, would say something to draw everyone's attention to him which  made it where he had to eat all of his oysters ( because everyone was watching) . Which would cause him to glare at her and her to smile a smug grin at his discomfort..This is a funny glimpse into their relationship throughout the book, On a more serious note, things take a turn for the worst as they are called to the scene of a crime where they find her "Uncle" Reggie, shot and beaten and on deaths door. Sadly, He dies just after they arrive but they are given one clue, his last words which were a warning for Emily . A few days later Nicholas discovers Emily's father is dead, He vows that he will find out who murdered him and will protect Emily at all costs because he fears that she is next .  A few days after that discovery, as Nicholas and Emily are on their way home from lunch , Their carriage is ambushed!  As the glass breaks, someone distracts Nicholas and another person snatches Emily and pulls through the carriage window. The thief puts a gag on Emily's mouth and starts to run down an a alley when Nicholas finally catches up with  him, He manages to save Emily from getting shot or being kidnapped by wounding her kidnapper's leg..
Now they are both on alert,  because they know whoever is after Emily, won't stop until they have her. As they both work together to solve the murder of her father and to ensure her safety , they sense there is a growing attraction between the two of them But as the threat to Emily gets closer and Jenny's health gets worse, Will Nicholas and Emily put their trust in God and remember that He is in control?
I guess you will have to read it to find out.

I loved this book, I love the humorous relationship between Nicholas and Emily. I love the strong faith in God that Nicholas and his sister Jenny have. The plot was good, it kept me guessing about how the book would end ( except for one part but I can't say what it is)  I will definitely have to check out other books that this author has written.
Well I hope you enjoy this book and keep on reading!

Drawing Fire by Janice Cantore

Just finished reading another awesome book Called Drawing Fire by Janice Cantore. This is the first book in the Cold Case Justice series. It is the story of Abby Hart, a detective for the Long Beach Police Department. She is working on a homicide case that seems to have run cold ( has no leads, has no clue how to solve the case) when she receives a call that another homicide just took place that is eerily similar to the one she is working on. She suspects that there could be a serial killer that is murdering elderly ladies, though she is not she why.
There is only one lead, The irritating Private Investigator Luke Murphy saw the murderer but did not catch him. When Abby finds out that the lady murdered was the governor's aunt, she is very anxious to talk to the governor, not just about his aunt but about a case that he was involved in, a case that was never solved, The murder of her parents.
Luke is also interested in the murder of Abby's parents because his uncle died that day in the fire that burned down her parents home and restaurant. 28 years prior to the story, Abby's parents were shot and kerosene poured all over both property's in an attempt to destroy everything that belonged to them, including their 6 year old daughter who was sleeping in the office of their restaurant.  Luke's uncle found the child and rescued her but later died of smoke inhalation. Abby teams up with Luke to try and get some answers about her parents but they are warned by several people that they should leave the case alone, All they both want is to find some answers to the case that has defined both of their lives, The more they uncover, the more questions they have. As they both feel a growing attraction towards each another, they shrug it off as just a common interest the Triple 7 case ( her parents murder) . After a failed murder attempt on Luke, a break in at Abby's house and Luke's daughter and parents threatened, they began to wonder if they should just let the case remain unsolved. Will Abby and Luke find peace and justice for the murders of their family members or will they let the case control how they live their lives, Should they continue to investigate the case or should they put it in God's hands and let Him take control?
Guess you will have to read the book to find out!

I thought the book was excellent. I was not really anxious to read this book, because I normally do not read law enforcement suspense stories. but now that has changed! I loved the book so much, I thought that the plot was intriguing and the characters believable. I have read books where you read something and roll your eyes while thinking, "Police would never do that!" or "What kind of FBI agent would leave the victim at the scene!" but her characters were very professional, were diligent at their work and though they wanted to investigate just the Triple 7 case, life did not stop for them, they still had responsibilities like their families  and work . You can tell that the author had a job in law enforcement before by the way she describes Abby's job at LBPD .  Overall I will definitely read the sequel. The only bad thing about the book? I have to wait until next year to read the sequel !!!
I rate the book 5 stars

Oh well, I guess I will just check out her other books until the sequel comes out . You can check what other books she has wrote by clicking on the link below:

Stealing Jake by Pam Hillman

Hi Everyone , I just finished reading Stealing Jake by Pam Hillman. It is the story of Livy O'Brien, A pick-pocketing street kid from Chicago who was taken in by Mrs Brooks, a few years before. All she wants is to leave her past behind her and to help out with the orphanage that her and Mrs Brooks opened in Chestnut, Illinois. When she spies a boy bump into Deputy Jake Russell and discreetly steal his pocket watch. She intervenes by "bumping" into the boy and discreetly removing the pocket watch from his pocket. As she turns around to return it to the Deputy, she is nearly run over as he had started to run after the boy. While seeing if Livy is all right after he nearly ran her over , Jake reaches in his pocket and removes the pocket watch that he had thought was stolen. Glad that he did not chase a kid down and accuse him falsely, he focuses on the curly haired lady in from of him. Jake takes her home and is surprised that she lives and works at the Orphanage. He tries to stop thinking about her but he still cannot seem to get her out of his mind, He wants to get to know her better but she does not seem willing to trust any man. Livy senses the growing attraction between herself and Deputy Jake but will not let her guard down, Not after what happened to her sister, besides a Lawman would never be attracted to her if he knew that she used to be called "Light-fingered Livy". After a string of robberies start occurring in their small town, everyone blames the street kids that have taken residence in "shantytown" a small section of town filled with buildings that should have been condemned and empty crates that serve as shelter for the street kids . As the town tries to get rid of the street kids, Livy is determined to get them to trust her so that she can take care of them at the Orphanage. She is convinced that it is not the street kids that are stealing items from the local businesses, but can she convince everyone else that they are innocent? After someone attempts to murder both Livy and Jake, They have to race against the clock to save the lives of several street kids. Will they be able to rescue the kids and clear there names or will the events of Livy's past cloud the towns judgment?
I guess you will have to read the book to find out    :)

First, I Loved this book! I thought that the book was very well written. This is the first book that I have read from Mrs Hillman and I love her writing style. The story was very easy to follow and the plot was so engaging that I finished the book in a matter of hours, I just did not want to put it down!  I love the character Livy and her compassion and determination to help the street kids and I like that we also get a glimpse into a street kid's point of view.  The ending was definitely the best part, with so much going on in the last 100 pages it is impossible to put the book down.

Overall I would give it 5 Stars.

Stealing the Preacher by Karen Witemeyer

Here's a new book just in time to read before the end of summer. It's called Stealing the Preacher by Karen Witemeyer. It is the story of Crockett Archer, A young cowboy who dreams of being a preacher. He is on his way to an interview to became the preacher of a Church in Brenham Texas. When suddenly the train he is on gets held up by a band of robbers! He is shocked when the train robbers come on board and only demand one thing, That they will not leave the train without the preacher. Crockett is sure that they are looking for someone else though he finds their demands strange, however when they hold up a paper about the interview he is supposed to be attending, He realizes that he is the one that they came for. Roughly tied up, He is presented to the head train robber's daughter, Joanna Robbins who asked for a Preacher for her birthday. When she realizes what her Father did, she is horrified and quickly unties him and lets Crockett go, Her only request of him , That he recommend someone for their small local church that was abandoned. She tells him that she prayed for a Preacher for her birthday to help her reach her Father and her local community ,She has been praying for her Father to come to the saving knowledge of the love of Jesus Christ ever since her Mother passed away due to illness. Crockett prays with her and then goes on to his interview, but he is intercepted by one of the people that were conducting his interview and was informed that he did not get the position. At first he is angry that he did not get the position because he was kidnapped but then Crockett feels the hand of God tell him to go back to Joanna's little church and become their Preacher. As Crockett and Joanna go about trying to restore the church and the community, Things appear to be going well until someone (Can't say who ... It could ruin the story) gets shot accidentally by one of the main characters and it will take a miracle from God's own hand to save that persons life. Will this event be enough to break through the icy exterior of Joanna's Father's heart. or will he continue to run from God like he has done for his entire life?
You have to read it to find out

This book is absolutely now one of my Favorites!!! It was a blessing to read such a awesome book. Joanna's faith is amazing and the way she and Crockett witnessed several times to her Father and he never even realized that they were preaching to him is fantastic. I loved how the plot kept you interested from Chapter 1 until the very last page. And the end of the book was the best, Of course I can't tell you what happened but it is definitely the best part of the book!  And I just want to say that the title of the book is Awesome, absolutely eye-catching, I was reading it on my break at work and everyone kept asking me about the cover because they could not believe someone would try and steal a preacher. :)

So If you check it out, Please let me know what you think, You can click on the "Post a comment button" and leave a comment as a long as you like! I would love to hear what you think.

In Good Company by Jen Turano

I was just given the opportunity to read In Good Company by Jen Turano and I LOVED IT!!!  It is the story of Millie Longfellow who grew up as an orphan and all she wants is to become the best nanny in the East Coast. Sadly her enthusiasm and playfulness gets her fired from several positions and at the beginning of the story you find that she is yet again fired from her latest job. Everett Mulberry who has become the guardian for three kids, Rebecca, Rose and Thaddeus  who scare off every nanny that he hires for them with mischief. and silly pranks. When the employment agency pairs Millie and Everett together as their last resort, They both agree that there is no way that would work. Millie finally agrees to be the nanny to Everett's kids after he begs on his knees and gives her flowers ( you have to read the story to find out why he did that) As Millie watches the kids, She falls in love with each of them. While Millie watches the kids, Everett attempts to climb the social ladder by going out with Miss Caroline Dixon, A wealthy debutante. As Everett grows closer to the kids,  he starts to wonder about the mysterious circumstances surrounding their parents death.  As a visitor from out of town tries to take the kids from Millie and Everett. Everett's life starts to unravel as everything he thought was important does not seem to matter anymore and the person he thought loved him, turned out to be the exact opposite of who he thought she was. Were the kids parents killed by accident or was it murder? Will Everett ever find the one that God wants him to be with for the rest of his life?  I guess you will have to read the book to find out.

This is the sequel to After a Fashion also by Jen Turano. It can be read as a sequel or a stand alone book. The book was very well written and has a fantastic plot, The book contains humor, love, mystery and suspense . I love the humor that Mrs. Turano put in this book, That she puts in all of her books. ( all her books make me smile)  I found the character named Millie amazing.  I like her love for learning and for the kids, I love her determination not to allow the circumstances of her past to define her.  I was so intrigued by the story that I stayed up almost all night so that I could finish the book and I was not disappointed with the ending. At the end of the book, Mrs Turano seemed to hint that she might make another book about Lucetta who is Millie's best friend next, I hope that she does because I cannot wait for her next book!!!

Snow Angel by Jamie Carie

Hey Everybody, I'm sorry that I haven't written in a while, I have been so busy this summer and it just officially started this week! Well even though I have been busy that has not stopped me from reading, I just finished Snow Angel by Jamie Carie. It is the story of Elizabeth who grew up an orphan after her Grandfather made her mother Jane give her up as a baby. Elizabeth had a rough upbringing living in several different orphanages and then getting adopted by a shady, murdering couple. She finally makes it to Juneau, Alaska after she is struck with gold fever. When she gets lost alone on a isolated mountain ,it is by the grace of God that she reached a cabin before she collapsed. Noah Wesley heard a faint sound at the door but as he looked outside, He did not see anyone or anything there, as he is closing the door he hears a voice inside him tell him "open the door and look outside" He opens the door again and steps out only to discover Elizabeth unconscious and half-frozen on the floor. He rushes to bring her in and get her warm, He works all night to try and revive her. Finally at the crack of dawn she wakes up, though sore and hurting she is alive. In the days that follow Noah finds himself drawn to Elizabeth, He sees the pain and weight that she carries but will not share with anyone. He longs to be able to earn her trust and to figure out why she is so drawn to the gold and why she would chase it during one of the worst blizzards he had ever seen.  When someone from Elizabeth's past shows up in Juneau, it starts a spiral of events that might break through the icy exterior of her heart. But will it cause her new found friends to turn their backs on her after they discover what she has done?

I thought that the book was good, though some questions did not seem to be answered such as Why did Elizabeth have gold fever so bad, But overall the plot was engaging, the characters sweet ( especially Will and Cara ) The only weird thing about the book is that at the end of each chapter you would read a letter from a private detective that someone ( you have to read the book to find out) hired to find Elizabeth. Overall I give it 3.5 Stars. This is a good book to read in the summer because reading about the snow and ice can chill you... even if it is 99 degrees outside!

A Worthy Pursuit by Karen Witemeyer

I just finished reading A Worthy Pursuit by Karen Witemeyer, Which is the 2nd book that I have read of hers. It is the Story of Charlotte Atherton who was formally a Headmistress until the school closed mid-season. In order to protect three of her students, She leaves with John ( An orphan), Stephen ( Whose parents are overseas) and Lily (Whose Mother gave her guardianship before she died)  in the middle of the night to go to her home in Texas. Stone Hammond is a Bounty Hunter hired by Lily's Grandfather to locate Lily because she was kidnapped. When he locates Charlotte and the Kids, He is puzzled over how happy they all look. When he gets caught by their friend Mr Dobson, He is surprised that Charlotte welcomes him as a friend and not the enemy, though it is evident that she does not trust him.  When Charlotte shows proof that she is Lily's legal guardian, Stone can't help but think that he is on the wrong side. When they discover that Lily's Grandfather only wants her because of a special talent that she has (a photographic memory) Charlotte and Stone work together to keep Lily safe and to make sure that her Grandfather does not get custody of the Child.

I loved, loved, LOVED this book! Charlotte is so charming and the kids are adorable. I love the way the author describes each character in such detail that you actually can picture them in your mind. I like that the characters have a sense of humor, Some parts made me want to laugh out loud! ( but I was at work , on my lunch break.. Not the best place to start laughing for no apparent reason) The interaction between Charlotte and Stone is sweet and so is his attitude toward the kids . I think that the best part of the book was the ending ( which was Perfect!) I think that the storyline was very engaging and the plot was so interesting that I could hardly put the book down! I cannot wait for her other books to come out and I hope that she writes a sequel to this book

Taken By Dee Henderson

Hey, Just finished reading Taken by Dee Henderson , The story is about Private Investigator Matthew Dane whose daughter was abducted at age 8 and was found 8 years later, He helped his daughter recover from the experience and to get back to living a normal life. That is why Shannon Bliss sought him out just days after her freedom. Shannon was abducted at the age of 16 and had just escaped after spending 11 years with her captors. All Shannon desperately wants is to try and get back to living a normal life, Matthew quickly discovers that just because she escaped her captors does not mean that she is free yet, As Shannon slowly reveals the events that occurred in the past 11 years,  Matthew finds himself determined to make sure that she gets the life that she dreams of and that her captors are brought to justice.  Though a kind of sad and heartfelt story You see how her faith in God helped keep her determined to survive and how with the help of friends she can recover from her tragedy and be able to have the normal life that she is hoping for.

I thought that the overall storyline was good but it seemed like it went on forever, I thought that Shannon was a very likeable character and her strength was to be admired but I found that she barely seemed traumatized by the events of the past eleven years. She seemed worn out, dazed and she slept a lot, Sort of depressed, but she did not show any weakness, any sign of a breakdown. She never really said exactly what happened, just that some people died and it was because of Flynn ( a member by marriage to the family that abducted her ) that she was still alive and that she was able to escape. You also see the story from only Matthew's point of view, I would have loved to have seen the story from Shannon's point of view, Maybe some flashbacks or pages of her diary/journal so that we would have a better understanding of her story. Overall it was a good story , but I really missed a big, dramatic ending, Something exciting.  I rate it 3 stars.

Butterfly Palace by Colleen Coble

So I just read Butterfly Palace by Colleen Coble and was pleasantly surprised by the story. I read the back of the book when I purchased it and the storyline seemed OK, Not really anything to write home about, But when I actually read the book I just could not put it down!
The story is about Lily Donaldson, Whose Father dies in a fire along with her fiance's Father. Andy ( her fiance) Leaves her for reasons that are not apparent until later in the story (I don't want to ruin the story by giving spoilers) Four years later her Mother dies, She than finds herself employed as a maid at The Butterfly Palace. While serving at a dinner party she sees Andy. She's puzzled as to why he is a distinguished guest when he used to be one of her Fathers helpers and why he has changed his name to Drew. When she prevents the murder of a young servant, it appears that she becomes the Murderer's next target. The Plot thicken when someone steals Mr. Marshall's ( Her Employer) prized Butterfly, There is a murder that occurs in the Butterfly room and Lily uncovers an assassination attempt on Mr.Marshall with the help of an unlikely ally. Lily and Drew (aka Andy, remember I told you he changed his name) have to work together to find the murderer before Lily becomes the next victim and Mr Marshall is assasinated. The story is filled with twists and turns that make it hard to determine the ending and will have you second guessing who the murderer is,  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did! Well on to the next book...

Safe In His Arms by Collen Coble

I just finished reading Safe in His Arms by Colleen Coble, It is the story of Margaret O'Brien  who is not really like any lady in town , She thinks her hair is too red, her feet are too big and that she is way too tall.  So when her father decides that she needs to act more like a lady and not a rancher, He hires Daniel Cutler, a stranger with a mysterious past. Margaret's father also invites her Cousin Lewis to help run the ranch,  further taking any responsibility of running the ranch from her.  Immediately it becomes clear that Daniel likes Her, but Margaret has had her heart broken before and is very guarded around men, and has no problem showing her dislike of Daniel because he took over her job on the ranch. When she overhears a conversation between Daniel and another man outside of her window. she finds out that he's a bank robber.  She then makes it her mission to try and help Daniel turn his life around. But when Her father is killed, Lewis disappears and someone tries to shoot her, She works with Daniel to find out who wants her out of the way  and what is it that he is hiding about his past. I liked the book very much, It did have a few spots where the plot twindled a little making it slightly boring but it did have a surprising ending. it also had a lot of romance( nothing inappropriate, just the characters kissing... Several times. A little too much for my taste. ) and some action  ( What would a western story be without cowboys, guns, bank robbers, daring escapes on horseback, you know the things that make a western story exciting  ) but nothing graphic. Overall it was a very good book. It is part of  the series Under Texas Stars, but I read it as a stand alone book. So take a look for yourself and tell me what you think!
